Biografía

John Paul Ospina Morales (born September 2, 1980 in Vancouver, Canada), is a Colombian-Canadian bilingual singer, songwriter, music producer, actor and presenter. Some of his career highlights include his participation in the first season of the reality show Latin American Idol broadcast by Sony Entertainment Television in Latin America, and hosting the program E! News from E! Entertainment Television Latin America. His parents, both Colombians and amateur singers, came together for music in another country, and Colombia was the backbone his culture. He arrived in Medellín in 1991, with a lively energy for art and the stage, and the experience of having participated in student musicals. His interest in music grew influenced by Anglo and Latin sounds from the streets of New York (the city where he lived for 5 years), with genres as diverse as Pop, Pop Rock, R & B, Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz and Salsa.

He studied lyrical singing at the University of Antioquia and at the same time became part of the pop rock group El Sótano, as lead singer. Together, they achieved recognition in the musical circuit nationwide. A successful modeling career led John Paul to make his way in the capital, Bogotá, catching the attention of celebrated teacher and acting coach Victoria Hernández. Under her direction, he began his studies in dramatic art, contemporary dance, mime, clown and comedy, landing the antagonistic role in the series Al Ritmo de tu Corazón (Canal RCN, 2004), which was broadcast in several countries.

Television and cinema have marked an important showcase for his music. Songs he cowrote were part of the soundtrack of several Colombian television series, including "Francisco el Matemático". John Paul is also the voice behind the hispanic version of Discovery Kids Latin America’s "Peep and the Big Wide World" theme song. Recently, his successful single " She's so Dangerous" was part of the soundtrack of "Loca Por El Trabajo", a Mexican film starring Bárbara de Regil. In 2005 he tackles a new challenge as presenter of Mucha Música on City TV, the most important music show in the country. As host of Much Music Colombia, he compiled a considerable list of interviewees; among them: La Ley, Los Prisioneros, Andrea Echeverri, Fatboy Slim, Alerta, Miranda and The Black Eyed Peas.

In 2006, among more than 20,000 applicants from all over Latin America and after numerous auditions and televised tests, he became one of the finalists of the first version of Latin American Idol, the famous singing reality show broadcast by Sony Entertainment Television in more than 26 countries. In June 11, 2007, John Paul returned to international television screens as the first male host of E! Entertainment Television, on E! News for Latin America. Along with Daniela Kosán, he undertook this fresh project, 100% in Spanish, broadcast in prime time for more than 14 million Spanish-speaking viewers. There, he had the opportunity to interview important entertainment figures such as Christina Aguilera, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Gloria Trevi, Thalía, Paulina Rubia and Cher, among many others.

After several years in television, John Paul retired to the mystical city of Tulum to reconnect with his art in an essential way and tap into the purpose of his music. John Paul is a graduate of the prestigious Berklee School of Music, where he completed his master's degree in music composition and production. In addition to producing and composing for emerging Latin artists, he is currently working on his musical debut in Spanish, an album that fuses Colombian cumbia with electronic rhythms in songs with enveloping atmospheres and exciting lyrics that tell true stories, resonate in the soul and make you dance.

The businessman also fell in love with the Riviera Maya, where he now resides and runs his record label and his audiovisual production company. After the pandemic, John Paul decided that it was time to reinvent himself and is currently presenting auditions to return to the screens through acting in new television formats and series, without ever putting aside his great passion for his music, which can be found in Spotify, Apple, Youtube and all digital platforms.
